Best places to visit in the Algarve

Many things.

The Algarve is known for dramatic cliffs, mouthwatering seafood and picturesque villages. People flock here from all corners of the globe. And for good reasons; the climate is pleasant, the food is divine and people here are very easy-going and friendly. But that's just the tip of the iceberg.

Did you know the Algarve is the only spot in Portugal with these incredible natural arches? They can be found along the Algarve coastline and are a popular tourist attraction in the region.

What is the Algarve known for?

The Algarve is a province in the southernmost region of Portugal, covering around 4,997 square kilometers (roughly 1,929 square miles). It holds a unique geographical position as the southwesternmost area of mainland Europe. Bounded by the Alentejo region to the north, the Atlantic Ocean to the south and west, and sharing an eastern border with Andalusia in Spain.

Where is the Algarve?

The region's name "Algarve" is derived from the Arabic word "Al-Gharb," meaning "the west," reflecting its location in the western part of the Iberian Peninsula.

WHERE TO STAY IN THE ALGARVE

Where to stay in the Algarve?

Most definitely, Carvoeiro! It’s your classic Portuguese resort town that’s located in the heart of the Algarve, surrounded on either side by sandstone sea cliffs. With easy access to nearby beaches, coastal views, and amenities, it’s the perfect base to set up your accommodation. Looking for a place to rest your head? We’ve got some fantastic recommendations for stays in the Algarve. We prioritize accommodation offering scenic views, as we believe that sleeping by the sea can bring a sense of tranquility.

Pretty much, most of the year. But let us expand on that.

Our personal favorites are the months June and September. But don't miss out on the winter months, from November to February. Sure, it’s cooler but there are a lot of sunny days with nice temperatures. Just remember to pack a sweater, pants, and a pullover for those cooler evenings.
